  • Moonrise Over the Mesa

    Moonrise Over the Mesa

Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park lies in the heart of Navajo country. You may remember parts of the park from the many westerns that were filmed there. It embodies the essence of the west. In this photograph, the moon is rising over the mesa in the distance. You can almost imagine a cattle drive just out of sight in the valley below or perhaps cowboys making camp for the night just out of sight. Copyright © 2002 by Charlie Tomberg. All rights reserved.

  • Portal to Eternity

    Portal to Eternity

Arches National Park in the American southwest is home to many amazing rock formations. Hiking along the trails is almost to look back in time. It is not just that you can actually see the vestiges left by past eras in the strata of the cliffs, but also that the arches themselves seem to transport you to another time. They rise out of the landscape as portals to the past. Copyright © 2002 by Charlie Tomberg. All rights reserved.

  • Iridescent Beach in Paradise

    Iridescent Beach in Paradise

The small south Pacific country of the Cook Islands has many islands and many beautiful beaches. This one is called One Foot Island, and is located near the larger island of Aitutaki. It features iridescent water and a pristine sandy beach. This photograph was taken in September, 2005. Copyright © 2005 by Charlie Tomberg. All rights reserved.

    Window Through the Rock

Big Bend National Park in Texas, which extends to the banks of the Rio Grande River, forms a crossroad between two nations, the United States and Mexico. Its location is remote, and consequently is often overlooked by travelers visiting the surrounding more populated areas. The park is a place of rare beauty, however. There are outstanding rock formations like this one, which beautifully frames the next formation down the line. What is beyond that rock? We just don’t know. Copyright © 2002 by Charlie Tomberg. • Homes Over the Water

    Homes Over the Water

To travel to the idyllic island of Moorea in the small south Pacific nation of French Polynesia is to enter another world. Verdant mountain peaks tower above the pineapple plantations in the valley. The local people greet the travelers with a smile and a wave. And some of the houses jut out over the blue waters of the picturesque lagoon. The coral reef is visible in the distance, helping to protect the island from the turbulent Pacific ocean.
